1. Product Overview (Original Page 1)
The EFR4002IPR Energy Flow Relay monitors the direction of current (power) flow between the public electricity grid and a generating plant or consumer loads. The device can be conveniently operated remotely via its integrated web server or directly on the device itself. Measurement values are clearly organized and displayed on the device's display.
When the power generated by an on-site generating plant exceeds actual on-site consumption, self-consumption of the surplus energy is often more economical. This is particularly advantageous when there is a significant difference between the electricity purchase price charged by the grid operator and the feed-in tariff paid for electricity exported to the grid.
Many sites that would otherwise be suitable for photovoltaic installations have previously been unusable because the grid connection point permits only limited power export.
In Germany, the standard VDE-AR-N 4105:2018-11 allows the installed generation capacity to exceed this limit by up to 66.6% or even more, provided that the additional generated electricity is consumed on-site rather than fed into the grid. The EFR4002IPR can monitor the system to help ensure that this requirement is met while maintaining system stability.
The same principle applies to zero-export applications, in which no electrical energy may be exported to the grid. In such applications, the device can serve as an Energy Flow Sensor (EnFluRi). The EFR4002IPR is optimized for these functions and can exchange data with a PPS (Power Plant Controller).
1.1 Key Product Features
Zero-export device model: EFR4002IPR
Compliance-related monitoring: Monitoring of Pav,e in accordance with VDE-AR-N 4105:2018-11.
Application objective: Optimize the self-consumption of self-generated electricity and increase the self-consumption ratio.
Energy Flow Sensor (EnFluRi) and feed-in limitation: Response time < 0.1 s.
Two operating modes: Zero-export device or limiter.
If the permitted feed-in power limit is exceeded, relay K3 disconnects the generating system or part of it.
Before disconnection becomes necessary, regulation can be performed via the analog output, or loads can be switched on via relays K1 and K2 to absorb surplus energy or reduce generator output, thereby avoiding complete disconnection.
Figure 1. Original page 1: Product overview, functions, features and ordering information.
2. Functions
Switching up to three loads: The operating mode can be configured for maximum-load priority, priority-based sequencing (1–2–3), or combinations of the three loads, providing a total of seven stages.
Switch-on and switch-off thresholds: Set the energy-flow levels at which loads are switched on and subsequently switched off.
Switch-on/switch-off delays and minimum on-time: These functions can also be used to control heat pumps (SG Ready), battery chargers and inverters.

5. Wiring Examples
5.1 Example 1: Pav,e Monitoring — Separate Disconnection of System Components (Original Page 3)
Original title: Connection example: Pav,e monitoring, separate shutdown of system components.
This configuration is intended to control the disconnection of individual components of a generating system, such as multiple inverters or generation units. When the permitted feed-in power limit is about to be exceeded, the components are disconnected in stages according to their assigned priorities, avoiding the need to shut down the entire system.
Figure 2. Original page 3: Pav,e monitoring — separate disconnection of system components.
5.2 Example 2: Pav,e Monitoring — Complete System Shutdown via Grid and Plant Protection (Original Page 4)
Original title: Connection example: Pav,e monitoring, complete shutdown via grid and plant protection.
The Pav,e limit-exceeded signal from the EFR4002IPR is connected to the grid and plant protection system (NA-Schutz). The protection system then shuts down or disconnects the entire generating installation from the grid.
