Coupler protection products

We offer a wide variety of solutions to protect couplers from snow, ice, dust and sand. In harsh weather conditions, they not only protect the function of the coupler, but also extend the life of the components.

Each railway line faces different environmental conditions. We can create bespoke solutions to ensure safe, economical and reliable service for trains.

Intermediate system

semi-permanent coupler

Semi-permanent couplers provide manual coupling between multiple vehicles. They ensure a secure and stable connection between vehicles and are a cost-effective option for vehicles with little separation. Our semi-permanent couplers can include electric and pneumatic connections. They are equipped with through-channel supports and impact energy absorbing elements to maximize safety in the event of a crash.

modular concept

Like our automatic couplers, Dellner semi-permanent couplers are designed around a modular approach. The selection is easy and there are many different options available. It also ensures interchangeability of spare parts, shortens lead times and reduces maintenance costs.

• Optimum performance with superior quality and safety

• Fast delivery and interchangeability of spare parts

• Reduced service and maintenance time

• Applied to projects around the world

through channel

The intermediate system also includes various types of through passages. Made from the company's proprietary in-house silicone material, these through-channels provide enhanced durability, better fire resistance and excellent noise attenuation.

Tunnels tailored to project needs—capable of meeting your most demanding needs, such as custom shapes and sizes, special colors and materials, special applications and operating environments, high tensile strength, and vandal resistance.

Dellner tunnels comply with all important international standards and ensure low maintenance costs resulting in low total operating costs.

digital automatic coupler

By increasing the overall capacity of freight trains and enhancing rail freight reliability, DAC couplers enable rail freight to become more competitive than road freight. The advantages of DAC are reflected in the integrity of the train system and better decoupling capabilities, resulting in better traffic planning and rail accessibility. The DAC is also expected to improve the health and safety of rail workers by eliminating the need to enter the shunting area during shunting and train assembly operations.

The Shift2Rail program predicts that between 2025-2029, approximately 1 million digital automatic couplers will replace chain hooks on new and existing wagons and locomotives. This will be a major factor in the Green New Deal, which is expected to reduce emissions by 25 million carbon dioxide equivalents by 2050. As part of this programme, our couplers are undergoing extensive testing and validation according to the requirements defined in the European DAC Delivery Schedule. Final selection of hook technology is expected by the end of 2021.

Dellner's DAC coupler design is shown in the exploded view given below. The main sub-assemblies include the hitch head, tow gear and electric coupler. Options for added functionality include adding pneumatic valves, remote uncoupling of electric couplers and customization.

Features of hook tail seat:

• Balanced traction device

• Rubber spring

• Mechanical travel indicator

• Lubrication free

• Compliant with UIC 530-1 standard

• Swing angle

- Horizontal ±15°

- Vertical ±11°

Features of hook head:

• Close-in coupler - typical of Dellner digital automatic couplers

• Tension/compression 1000/2000 KN

• Reliability

• Large connection range

- Vertical +/-140 MM

- Horizontal -275/+370 MM

• Grease lubrication without unhooking

• Snap ring interface

Combined coupler

In the transition from chain hooks to the new digital automatic coupler (DAC), operators will face the enormous challenge of transitioning between technologies. To support this, Dellner has developed combined couplers for locomotives and wagons, including two types of attachments. This allows operators to choose between chain hooks or DACs depending on the specific train configuration. These combination couplers will provide all the features of a DAC coupler.

The main advantages of the combined coupler:

• Fully compatible with the chain hook interface and the new DAC interface, simplifying the connection of old and new trains

• Has all the features of a DAC

Features of custom add-ons:

• Coupler comes with pneumatic valve

• Remote decoupling capability

• Configurable electrical coupler

Key advantages of Dellner DAC:

• Robust and reliable modular design to support custom solutions

• Automatic hookup process that increases security and saves hands-on time

AND SAVES TIME FOR MANUAL OPERATIONS

• Enables easy and fast installation

• Ease of maintenance (no lubrication required for the traction unit and grease lubrication of the hook head without unhooking)

• Safe and low life cycle costs (operations, personnel and maintenance)
