The Bosch Forward Assistance Enhanced System is an intelligent driver assistance system designed for trams and light rail vehicles. By integrating cameras, 4D radar, LiDAR, and a high-performance control unit, it enables real-time detection and early warning of obstacles, vehicles, pedestrians, and track contours ahead.
The system operates reliably in complex conditions such as rain, snow, fog, and at night. It supports detection on both straight tracks and curves and can identify:
Track intrusions
Parked vehicles
Trees and obstacles
Pedestrians near the tracks
Close-range intrusion risks
Compared to traditional solutions, this system achieves higher accuracy, longer detection ranges, and more stable performance through multi-sensor fusion, effectively reducing the risk of collisions. Operational data shows that the implementation of this system can reduce tram accident rates by approximately 46%.
The system supports standalone deployment and can also work in conjunction with ATP (Automatic Train Protection). It is suitable for integration into new vehicles and retrofitting of existing ones, serving as a critical safety solution for the future of smart rail transit.
